Father Patrick Salah will be conducting an upcoming concert at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica presented by the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) Halifax Centre!
On Saturday March 4th at 7 pm, we are pleased to present G.B. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater paired with the Church Sonatas for strings and organ by Mozart.
The performance features some of Nova Scotia’s finest chamber musicians conducted by the Rev. Patrick Salah. Soloists include Jodie Alcorn-Miller and Andrew Pickett, accompanied by Shawn Whynot on continuo organ and a string quartet with violinists Karen Langille and Celeste Jankowski, violist Kirsty Money, and cellist Hilary Brown.
This approximately 90-minute performance will include a brief lecture providing liturgical and musical context of the Stabat Mater from conductor Rev. Patrick Salah. In addition, the concert will feature the organ in its role as a continuo instrument.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite ($20 / $15 for students).
In the event of a storm, the storm date is Sunday March 5 at 7 pm and updates will be available via the RCCO Halifax Center Facebook page. For more information, please email mattfrasermusic@gmail.com (RCCO Publicity Coordinator) or you’re welcome to email me with questions too.
The stunning Gothic Revival atmosphere of the Cathedral Basilica will bring the sacred text of this great Lenten work to life. The beauty and sorrow of the Stabat Mater is so fitting for this time of preparation as we enter into Lent.
